Spring Bishop’s Garden at the National Cathedral in DC Engagement Photos | Courtney + Joe

I’ve wanted to have a photo session at the stunning Bishop’s Garden at the National Cathedral in DC during Springtime for what feels like forever. And I honestly couldn’t have photographed this beautiful location with a sweeter, more genuine, and fun couple than Courtney and Joe. We got a chilly morning that day but I couldn’t stop taking photos of these two! They are getting married next January with Roberts & Co. Events at Stone Tower Winery, but January feels like it’s going to take FOREVER to get here because I am so excited to get them in front of my lens again!

I have several favorites from their engagement session here along with a bit about the two of them and how they met. I hope you enjoy!

We met during our time at Virginia Tech. We were set up for a March sorority data party through our friend Terra (one of Courtney’s bridesmaids!). She suggested that we hang out at Joe’s fraternity’s St. Patrick’s Day party so we could meet before the date party. It was very ~lucky~ we met that night!

Courtney: I thought Joe was full of energy – totally life of the party-type. He still is!

Joe: My first thought was she’s cute, fun, and she makes me a little nervous.

After the date party, Joe called Courtney a few days later and asked if she wanted to go to dinner at a local spot in Blacksburg. The rest is history!

Courtney: I knew for weeks it was coming. We were on our annual family trip to Ocracoke Island, NC, where my family owns a house. Joe suggested that one night, we have a date night and go to dinner just the two of us. On our way to dinner, Joe suggested we walk by the lake in town before our reservation. He was stalling and acting strange… that’s how I knew for sure it was going to happen! Next thing I knew, my brothers jumped out from behind the bait and tackle shop with cameras in hand. Joe got down on one knee and proposed, and I said yes!

Joe: I didn’t act strange. It was all very smooth… 🤠

Courtney: Joe is the best partner to have through all of life’s ups and downs. He is always my biggest cheerleader and steady through hard times.
Joe: Courtney is truly the kindest person I’ve ever met. She has the biggest heart and always takes care of others before herself. She’s also much funnier than I think she gets credit for.

Courtney: The first dance! We’ve been talking about it for so long, it’ll feel surreal when it’s finally here!

Joe: Walking back down the aisle after we’ve both said I do!
