I recently had the honor of photographing a surprise proposal at a stunning winery in Loudoun County. Shane had planned to propose to Jen in a balcony overlooking the beautiful vineyard and she had absolutely no idea that it was happening! Before it went down, I asked a really nice group of strangers nearby if they would use my phone to record it on video so that they would have a video clip of it happening, and they were just as excited as I was that it was happening. Thank you to those four awesome people for recording it! Jen was just floored when he got down on his knee and he had surprised her with a ring made with his grandmother’s diamond, which is just so sentimental and sweet. Here’s a quick breakdown of what happened:
Jen was showing Shane something on her phone, so I took the opportunity to do a quick exposure check since she wasn’t looking off the balcony. I had been hiding behind a post and I’m sure patrons at the winery were thinking “What is this weirdo lady doing with this huge lens peeping suspiciously behind this post?” Hahaha.
Then Jen saw both a bee and a spider right next to each other, so Shane got up to move them. Since I had texted him about coming out from behind the table, he took that opportunity as the best time to get down on one knee. You can see him pulling the ring out of his pocket there in the image below on the right. 🙂
She was stunned. She had no idea it was happening!
And below is the image when people started clapping and Jen realized that we were watching from down below!
I was able to take a few images while the excitement was still so fresh and real. It was a beautiful day — so windy and bright but absolutely perfect temperature-wise. I had so much fun capturing this special moment in their lives and love how joyful they both are. They are such a sweet couple and I enjoyed every second spent with them.
Cheers to you both! And happy wedding planning!!! <3
